Public turned away at Caroni Licensing Office

Members of the public were turned away from the Caroni Licensing Office yesterday because some of the staff complained their office was too cold owing to a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit.

Transport Commissioner Wayne Richards said only the service section on the ground floor of the building was not working and without staff.

He said in the other parts of the office, all staff were working.

“Depending on the section of the compound that you are dealing with, there is no service, but I am here right now and I can tell you there is a whole floor — we have inspection areas — and all these areas are working.

“Work started today in the entire building on time and the workers worked for a couple hours well.

“The air-condition system on the ground floor was totally unbearable. As a consequence, they tried to call in the technicians and the relevant people to try to deal with it.”

He could not say if the problem had yet been dealt with as yet, but said both staff and members of the public had been complaining about how cold the area was.

Richard could not say how soon the faulty unit would be fixed or whether staff would be at work today.
