THREE men were killed in three separate shootings in Carenage, Petit Valley and Morvant between Thursday night and Friday morning.

In the most recent incident, a man who was found in clothing resembling that of both the police and regiment was found dead in a yard in Morvant on Friday morning.

Police reported that at about 7am, a woman called Morvant police to say she had found the body of a man, yet to be identified, in her yard at Las Alturas.

The man was wearing a black balaclava, long camouflage pants, black combat boots, a black under-jersey, a blue sweater resembling those worn by the Guard and Emergency Branch, and a camouflage fisher hat.

Police have banned the use of balaclavas by their members after increased reports of men committing crimes while dressed in clothes resembling police tactical wear.

Police found 5.56 spent shells near his body and further away, prompting them to believe a shootout had led to the man's death.

In the second killing, Bevon Diamond, originally of Simeon Road, Petit Valley, was found murdered at about 10 pm on Thursday night at Upper Simeon Road.

Police said residents heard gunshots and found Diamond at the side of the road. He had moved out of the area after falling out with some of his neighbours. He returned on Thursday after his father left him a house, only to be shot dead.

The third to be killed was Menelik Labbay, who died hours after being shot when a drug deal went wrong.

Police said Labbay was declared dead on Thursday evening after he was shot in Haig Street, Carenage after he and friends went to buy marijuana. Police said at about 3 pm on Thursday, Labbay and others went to meet their supposed agents, but one of them was robbed and beaten.

Labbay, police said, saw his friend returning to the Nissan Almera they were in, closely followed by gunmen. He jumped out of the back seat and ran.

The gunmen ignored the man they had just robbed and chased Labbay, leaving his friend to get into the car and drive off with the others.

Labbay, 20, was found in a track off Haig Street with bullet wounds to the head. He was taken to the St James Medical Science Complex, where he was declared dead at about 6.30 pm.
