P/Town Pres PTA changes mind on UN letter
PRESIDENT of the PTA of Princes Town Presbyterian No 1 Nola Ramjohn-Karim said last month that her executive would write to the United Nations about the government’s refusal to rebuild their school.
However, the executive has decided to hold back on that and is now planning a press conference with both the school’s PTA and the Presbyterian Primary School board.
Ramjohn-Karim said, “The Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, keeps putting the blame on the board saying his Ministry is working alongside the board to solve the problem with our school, but this is far from the truth.”
This year, she said, the executive will be doing everything in its power to have the school rebuilt. The new year met students of the Presbyterian No1 school fighting for space at the Presbyterian No 2 school in Craignish Village, Princes Town.
“We have waited for four years for the rebuilding of Presbyterian No 1 and we see no signs of the school being rebuilt,” she said.
After the No 1 school on Edward Street was closed, 554 students were added to the No 2 school.
The population at the school now stands close to 950 students.
“Parents have had to leave their jobs in order to shuttle their children to and from the present location, in some cases four times a day,” Ramjohn-Karim said.
“Transport is also an issue with the hike in the price of gas. Parents incur exorbitant costs in hiring taxis to take them to the Princes Town Presbyterian School No 2.”
