Kamla in Cedros today
OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar will attend the re-enactment of Indian Arrival to beheld by the Cedros Indian Cultural Committee today.
The event takes place from10.30 am at the Old Jetty Car Park in Cedros, followed by a parade to Manmohansingh Park, Bonasse Village, Cedros.
Persad-Bissessar will also attend Indian Arrival Day celebrations in Ste Madeleine and Debe in the afternoon.
Previously she had been due to address Maha Sabha celebrations, but was disinvited after her remarks relating to the hijab row at Lakshmi Girls’ College, St Augustine.
When Persad-Bissessar called on the Maha Sabha to reconsider its ban on OJT Nafisah Nakhid wearing a hijab (as a matter of “justice, equality and fairness”), Maha Sabha head Sat Maharaj vowed she would pay “a hell of a price” electorally as he would urge Hindus to vote for anyone they chose and not for her party, the United National Congress.
