Municipal Constables selection continues

More than 4,000 candidates who applied for the position of Municipal Police Constable, 541 wrote the exam, and 488 were successful.

In a release today, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said they began interviews for these 488 prospective new Municipal Police Constables, and will continue this process over the rest of the month of August.

Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein said the ministry’s aim is to restore the sense of security in every community by having more officers to conduct foot patrols, act as first responders and provide mentorship to the youth.

“Every person in the community must be able to identify the police officers and has confidence that they will provide that feeling of safety that is much needed in our society.”

Hosein said following the interview process, the Office of Law Enforcement Policy (OLEP) will conduct a four-month training for the new recruits.

“This has been tailor-made to suit the roles and responsibilities of the Municipal Police Service. In May 2017, the ministry filled the positions of Assistant Commissioner of Municipal Police and Senior Superintendent of Municipal Police (South).”
