Cumuto man, 30, drowns at Caura River

THE sister of a drowning victim is urging people to remember to “live good” with others as life is short.

Chadee Singh, 30, of Cumuto Main Road, Cumuto, drowned during a work lime at Caura River on August 17.

Reports say around 1.45 pm, Singh was liming with a group of friends when he went swimming in the river.

His friends became concerned when they noticed he had not returned after more than half an hour. They began searching for him and saw him floating face-down in the water.

The group dragged him to the riverbank and called an ambulance.

Paramedics found signs of life and took him to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead at 3 pm.

His sister Marla Singh-Achaibar told Newsday she saw him on the morning of August 17 and never imagined it would be their last conversation.

“He was by me before he left for the river. We spoke normal. My brother knew I loved him. I just didn’t want him to die so young.”

Singh-Achaibar said her brother was a good person.

“He was a very helpful boy. He used to help anybody who ask him for help to do anything.”

She said her brother’s death has been difficult for the family.

“All my childhood memories with him (make me smile). My brother and I had a very close relationship, and coming back home where we grew up together brought back all those memories.”

Singh-Achaibar said the family is trying to stay strong for her mother, who, at 55, has lost her husband and her son.

She urged people to look out for each other and be happy.

“Cherish all the memories you have with people, because that is what you remain with (when they die), the memories.”
