Dylan Carter unable to advance to 50m free semis, exits 2024 Paris Olympics

Dylan Carter had a premature end to his Olympic campaign in Paris as he was unable to secure a place in the men’s 50m freestyle semi-final on August 1.

In the preliminary round, Carter placed sixth in heat eight of ten. He clocked a relatively slow time of 22.18 seconds.

Only the fastest 16 swimmers from the field of 74 sealed a semi-final spot. Carter’s time was well off as at least 17 swimmers dipped below the 22-second mark.

Winning the heat was Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist in this event Florent Manaudou, who sped to a 21.54s clocking.

Italian Leonardo Deplano (21.79s) and Israeli Merino Amir Cheruti (21.88s) were the second and third-fastest finishers in this heat.

Unluckily, this was Carter’s final event at the Games.

On July 30, he faced a similar fate in the 100m freestyle and did not advance past the preliminary round of the 100m freestyle after finishing last in the seventh of ten heats. He clocked 49.35 seconds.
