Venture Credit Union set for next 5K event

THE organisers of the Venture Credit Union 5K, one of the longest running events in TT, are gearing up for yet another event as this year's Run and Fun Walk takes place on September 15 at 6.30 am.
The event's media launch was held at the Courtyard by Marriot on July 24. Adults wishing to participate must pay $100 and children have to pay $50. Registration will take place at Venture Credit Union branches in Couva, Arouca and San Fernando. The race will be held in close proximity to the Couva branch.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. The first man and woman will each win $3,500.
"As usual we will engage the heart of our Couva community in this exhilarating event," Venture Credit Union board president Charles Percy said at the launch. "For over 27 years, Venture has been committed to enhancing the economic, social and physical well-being of its members and the communities it serves. Our 5K Run and Fun Walk is more than just an event on the local road running callender. It is a celebration of our collective spirit, resilience and unity."
Charles anticipates another successful event. "Today's media launch marks the beginning of our journey towards what promises to be an unforgettable event. We are here to build the hype and momentum as we engage in (our) national community and invite participants and sponsors to join us in this grand annual celebration of the spirit, energy and vibrancy of Venture Credit Union.
"Let us come together to make this year's Run and Fun Walk the best yet, fostering a sense of community, health and well-being."
Last year's champions Samantha Shukla and Nicholas Romany are looking forward to the event.
Shukla enjoys seeing the diverse group of people at the Venture Credit Union race. "I love seeing the ages of people. From the young to the old coming out especially the families, coming on that morning and enjoying (it), being able to celebrate their health. That is a really good thing and I want to thank you all for having the event."
Romany has a rivalry with Kenyan runner Alex Ekesa. He said Ekesa brings out the best in him.
"Alex is a very competitive athlete. He actually pushes me to run faster," Romany said.
"I really appreciate him for being here. He always comes with something new...the tactics he will use."
Acting director, physical education, sports division at Ministry of Sports and Community Development Patrice Charles said, "It gives me great pleasure once again on behalf of the ministry to congratulate Venture Credit Union."
Promoting a healthy lifestyle is what the ministry endorses, Charles said. "It fits perfectly within and supports our mandate to ensure that sporting events such as this one are mainstream and accessible."
Charles said the ministry has introduced many programmes including the Pink Reign campaign for women to ensure TT "gets moving and stays healthy."
Rachel Mason of CUNA Caribbean Insurance Ltd, a main sponsor, said, "This event stands as a testament to our shared commitment to community wellness and financial health for all people as we like to say at CUNA. As sponsors, we are really honoured to support initiatives that promote both physical and financial security and unity among all. Together let's celebrate the spirit of unity and determination that defines this event."
