Protest outside Parliament ahead of Procurement Bill debate

ABOUT 100 people protested outside the Parliament on Wednesday afternoon ahead of an extraordinary sitting of the House of Representatives to debate the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2023.

The protesters, who call themselves concerned citizens of TT, said they do not support the government’s proposed amendments to the bill, and are dissatisfied with other issues in the country like mismanagement of funds and increasing crime.

St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen, who greeted the protesters, told Newsday she supports them and that their concerns deserve to be heard.

As government ministers arrived, the group booed them.
