Indarsingh knocks WASA: Drought in Couva South

Incumbent Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said his constituents were facing “virtual drought” as it related to a pipe-borne water supply.
Indarsingh demanded a daily water supply for the constituents in a release on March 23.
He said the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) had spent thousands of dollars in full page newspaper advertisements to thank its outgoing line minister Marvin Gonzales and to welcome its new line Minister Colm Imbert.
“Despite having been ‘mamaguyed’ by Gonzales with the drilling of three wells in the Couva areas, my constituents continue to scrunt, suffer frustration and inhumane conditions as it relates to their water supply,” he said.
One his constituents was down to a few buckets of water despite having four tanks, he added.
This constituent was like many others who invested in tanks and found that the pipe borne supply of water did not allow them to replenish these frequently enough, Indarsingh said.
Last week, in a release, WASA said reservoir levels continued to decline.
Earlier this month, WASA’s CEO Keithroy Halliday warned of water shortages as the dry season progressed.
Indarsingh said despite promises of ongoing reform at WASA, the body continued to fail people in respect of reliable and clean water supply.
Calls to new Public Utilities Minister Colm Imbert went unanswered.
