Murders in Chaguanas, St James, pushes toll to 91

Two murders in Chaguanas and St James on March 21 have taken the toll to 91, as compared to roughly 125 at the same period last year.
In the first incident, Nicholson Bowen, 30, also known as Balco, of Lendore Village, Chaguanas, was gunned down near his home.
Police said around 5.35 pm, they received a report of the shooting at Tobago Road Extension.
They found Bowen lying in the road. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was already dead.
A witness told police Bowen came out of his home before several gunshots were heard.
Police found 17 spent 9mm shell casings and one projectile at the scene.
Police said on March 20, Bowen argued with a group of men in the community.
Around 5 pm on March 21, he again argued with the same group of men. He left the men and went home. He was dead 30 minutes later.
In a separate incident, in St James, 19-year-old Junior Cleary, of Dibe Road, Long Circular, was also shot dead.
Police said around 10.50 pm, they received a report of the shooting at Benares Street.
They went to the area and saw Cleary on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.
Police said he was still alive. They took him to the St James Medical Infirmary where he died around 11.23 pm.
Four .45 calibre spent shells, nine 9mm spent shells and three deformed projectiles were found at the scene.
Police said investigations into both murders are ongoing.
