Three children were among five people arrested on various gun and drug charges by police in the North Eastern Division during anti-crime exercises in Morvant and San Juan on January 19.

In the first incident, police went to Upper Sixth Avenue, Morvant, at around 6.10 am, after they received information of illegal firearms and ammunition being stored at the home of a known priority offender.

The police announced their presence, and a male suspect answered the door.

Police told him about the information they had received and said they intended to search the house.

Police searched the house in his presence and found two brass-coloured cylindrical objects resembling 9mm ammunition in a cup in the kitchen cupboard.

Police searched the yard and found several small clear plastic bags containing a total of 458 grams of marijuana wrapped inside a white plastic bag and hidden under some tiles.

The suspect was taken to the San Juan Police Station where he was charged.

Around 4 pm police were on another exercise at Francis Avenue, Petit Bourg, San Juan, when they saw a four teenagers standing in the yard of a man whose home they intended to search under the emergency powers regulation.

One of the teens saw the police approaching and dropped a blue bandana on the ground.

Police picked it up and found two brass-coloured cylindrical objects resembling .45mm ammunition wrapped in it.

The 14-year-old boy was arrested for the offence of possession of ammunition and held on suspicion of gang affiliations.

The other teens – two minors and an adult – were also arrested on enquiries for suspicions of being affiliated to a gang which committed serious offences and possession of firearm and ammunition.

Police also seized their electronic devices to be analysed.

The exercises were led by ACP Hazel, Snr Supt Spence, Supt Ramsook, co-ordinated by Asp Burris, and supervised by Insp Edwards.
