[UPDATED] Man struck, killed attempting to cross highway

An unidentified man clad in a grey t-shirt and green jeans was fatally struck while attempting to cross the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near the Courts Megastore walkover early Thursday morning.

Reports say around 5.50am a brown Hyundai Tucson heading east on the extreme right lane hit the unidentified man who was crossing south to north. A blue Toyota Aqua driving behind the Tuscon also struck the man.

A police source told Newsday on Thursday the victim was warned several times about crossing the highway and urged to use the walkover, mere metres from where he was struck. Both drivers are helping the police with their investigation.

Up until press time, the man has not been identified, he had no identification with him. The early morning caused a major traffic pileup that spilled onto the main road.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service urges the public to use walkovers.

ONE man is dead after being knocked down by a car on the eastbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened close to the Courts MegaStore at around 6.20 am. At 8.30 am, traffic on the highway was at a standstill.
