JUST over a month has passed since Crystal "CC" Charles shot back into the soca limelight, with the release of her single Born Alone.

Charles, who took a prolonged break from the music scene seven years ago, has found herself on numerous radio stations in recent months, formally reintroducing her to the country.

Speaking on her “resurfacing,” after spending several years in the cruise ship industry, up until last year, CC told Newsday she is relishing the moment.

“The feeling has been the same for me for the past few months: a burning fire in me, butterflies, that feeling of a breath of fresh air. I’m excited for Trinidad and Tobago to be hypnotised by this sweet groovy soca."

Born Alone was written by Charles and produced by Shot Master J and Body Roc produced it. Body Roc also mixed the track. Sancha Scipio and CC sang background vocals and Alex P did the mastering. It was recorded by
Umi Marcano Studio & Mark Wright Studio3.

Charles, 34, thanked radio stations that played her song and interviewed her, and stressed the need for stations to recognise up-and-coming performers and those who are often overlooked in favour of mainstream artistes.

“My wish is to get fair airplay... As we know, it's the same five hit songs you will hear every single day on rotation from the big artistes, constantly.

“And there is so much good music like mine. (We will) get an interview and (you will) never hear your song again. I’ll never know why.”

She thanked the DJs who have picked up and run her track on air and at events, and her fans.

“I just want that chance for, not only TT, but for the world to hear my music and leave it up to God after.”

She classed Born Alone as a hit song that, once played enough, “you’ll hear everyone singing it.”

“With constant promotion, I am praying for a successful Carnival 2024.”

As a three-time International Soca Monarch semifinalist, she said she intends on entering next year if there is a competition.

She hopes to collaborate with some of the industry’s popular artistes such as Patrice Roberts, Nadia Batson, Machel Montano, Jadel, Yung Bredda, and her “brother from another mother” Kernal Roberts.

Roberts, she said, inspired her for over ten years with his writing skills and knowledge of the industry.

Also, “I am definitely influenced by Nadia Batson. I love her personality, not only as an artiste. You can see she is a genuinely sweet soul. I love her vocals, her music and the way she carries about herself as a woman.

“Her energy screams positivity and I will also love to work with her in the very near future.”

The music video for Born Alone is scheduled to be released soon.
