Arima body identified as Joel Greaves
The search for Joel Rory Greaves, 49, of Dinsley Avenue, Tacarigua, came to an end on Wednesday after relatives confirmed the body found over the weekend in Arima was his.
He was last seen on September 15.
The Hunters Search and Rescue Team helped in search efforts. The team's head, Vallence Rambharat, told Newsday Greaves was killed in his vehicle, which was then stolen and used in two subsequent murders before being burnt and discarded.
Greaves' body was discovered on Saturday off the Arima Old Road, approximately 50 metres from Khan Street, in a bushy area. He was found lying on his stomach, with a wound at the back of his head. A district medical officer determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.
Initially listed as a "John Doe," his body was identified yesterday by relatives and a member of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team at the Forensics Science Centre, St. James.
Since the confirmation, Greaves' family have received an outpouring of love on social media. Offering its sympathy was the National Drama Association of TT, of which Greaves served as president between 2008 and 2010.
"This brutal, senseless tragedy pains us all as we offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," it said.
Greaves was a student of the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies. The school also sent its condolences to his family.
"His intelligence, articulation and eloquence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. He will always be remembered for the positive impact he made on our community.
"Rest in Peace, Joel," it said.
Greaves' sister declined to comment.
