Man in court for one-year-old son's murder

Josiah Elijah David, 22, appeared virtually in court on Wednesday charged with the murder of his one-year-old son.

David, of East Dry River, was brought before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor at the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court who then adjourned the matter to August 16.

A report said on July 17, the one-year and eleven-month-old child was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Port of Spain General Hospital from his Belmont home.

Doctors pronounced the toddler dead shortly after arrival. A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as Haem Peritoneum (internal bleeding in the abdomen area), Traumatic Brain Haemorrhage (bleeding in the brain), and multiple blunt force injuries.

During an investigation led by the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III), David was arrested on July 26. He was charged with murder on August 1on the advice of acting Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul on July 31.
