Women entrepreneurs meet with UK envoy
British High Commissioner Harriet Cross and the NGO Women-Owned Media & Education Network (WOMEN) have met to promote small businesswomen.
Cross received the WOMEN board, headed by Lucia Cabrera Jones and Jayme Hoyte, at her office in Port of Spain last week.
In a statement she said: “I am delighted to partner with WOMEN to provide training for 50 women entrepreneurs.
“It was wonderful spending time with them and learning how the training and guidance they provided was instrumental in turning their ideas for a business into reality during the pandemic. Local small businesses are the heart of our communities and our economy.”
The British High Commission and WOMEN have joined forces to strengthen their relationship and deepen support for women entrepreneurs through workshops and courses.
On June 28 WOMEN completed the most recent Thrive Women Business Development programme, in which women entrepreneurs learned how to improve their small businesses and turn them into economic opportunities for themselves and their families.
Six of those who took part in the programme were at the meeting with Cross.
They shared their experience as business owners and the transformative impact the programme had on their businesses.
The reception served as a platform for networking, sharing ideas and fostering deeper connections among the participants, further amplifying the spirit of collaboration and support.
Cabrera Jones said: “By strengthening their relationship, the British High Commission and WOMEN are paving the way for a more vibrant and inclusive business ecosystem in Trinidad and Tobago. Through these joint efforts, we seek to empower women, foster economic growth and create a better future for all.”
WOMEN has also been running courses for migrant women in TT.
