The Whole Girl workshop at Cascadia
The Whole Girl workshop takes place at Cascadia Hotel, St Ann's on July 24-28. The workshop seeks to address the challenges faced by girls in today's society.
A media release said, Sunita Gopaul, a mother of two girls and passionate advocate for young people, service, and communication, initiated the workshop with the aim to provide a nurturing environment for girls to embrace their femininity, love themselves, and develop essential life skills.
Now in its eight year, the workshop focuses on empowering, engaging, and exciting activities to foster self-esteem and self-confidence, free from competition and peer pressure.
Gopaul recognised the pressing need for the development of young girls in Trinidad and Tobago. She believed that self-confidence is lacking among many girls and that workshops like The Whole Girl can make a significant difference in their lives. The workshop caters to girls 11-17 years, the release said.
The workshop centres around social, emotional, and physical development, as Gopaul believes these aspects are crucial for overall well-being. Girls often face pressure to conform and may lose their true selves in the process. By helping them love and value themselves, Gopaul aims to cultivate respect and consideration for others.
Previous iterations of the workshop have been highly successful, with participants learning new skills, forging lasting friendships, and gaining inspiration from accomplished individuals who have overcome obstacles.
This year’s workshop will run for five days, featuring sessions on various topics, including emotional intelligence, finding your voice, personal branding and all-rounded development. Trained professionals, mentors, and experts in their respective fields will facilitate the sessions, ensuring a high-quality learning experience., the release said.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to enrol their daughters in the workshop to address contemporary challenges. In an era dominated by hand-held devices and lacking proper cell phone etiquette, the workshop seeks to teach girls appropriate behaviour, dressing, communication skills, and self-worth. By participating in the programme and being receptive to the skills taught, girls can become more empowered and well-rounded individuals as they navigate adolescence and transition into adulthood.
