Trinidad and Tobago 4x400m men cop gold at CAC
THE Trinidad and Tobago men’s 4x400m athletics quartet added another gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador on Friday night.
TT ended the games with 19 medals – eight gold, seven silver and four bronze.
The team of Renny Quow, Che Lara, Machel Cedenio and Jereem Richards won the relay event in three minutes, 01.99 seconds (3:01.99). It was Richards’s second gold medal in as many days as on Thursday night he won the men’s 400m event in a personal best.
It was a close finish in the 4x400m relay event with the Barbados team of Kyle Gale, Rasheeme Griffith, Rivaldo Leacock and Desean Boyce stopping the clock in 3:02.12. The Dominican Republic squad of Ezequiel Suarez, Juander Santos, Robert King and Lidio Feliz grabbed bronze in 3:02.19.
Kelsey Daniel just missed out on a bronze medal for TT in the men’s triple jump. His best effort was 16.10 metres.
In netball, TT earned silver after falling 50-36 to Jamaica in the final. Afeisha Noel converted 24 of 26 shots for TT and veteran Joelisa Cooper was a perfect 12 out of 12 from the field.
The TT women’s volleyballers finished seventh in the competition after defeating El Salvador 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 in the seventh/eighth place playoff.
On Friday, the TT men’s water polo team finished fifth after a 17-12 win over El Salvador in the fifth/sixth place match.
In cycling on Friday, Akil Campbell performed creditably finishing sixth in the men’s road race in three hours, 51 minutes and 13 seconds in a field which included over 40 cyclists.
