Campbell returns to pro circuit with team win in Germany
TRINIDAD AND Tobago women’s pro road cyclist Teniel Campbell made a victorious return to her 2022 season as she helped Team BikeExchange – Jayco win the Internationale Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in Germany which concluded on Sunday.
Campbell’s teammate, Australian Alexandra Manly won five of the six gruelling stages, covering a total distance of 695.8 kilometres. On each occasion, she beat to the line a peloton of over 90 pro cyclists.
This was Campbell’s first race since she was involved in a serious crash during an event in Gent, Belgium in late March. There, she suffered broken teeth, a busted chin and had to undergo several dental surgeries.
The cyclist’s recovery period forced her to sit out several competitions, including the Pan Am Road Championships in mid-May.
Campbell however, was happy to be back on the bike once again and expressed elation with her team’s dominance of the German race.
She posted on Facebook, “Back with the number pinned to my back and what better way to kick-start my first block of racing with five out of six wins with GreenEDGE Cycling (Team BikeExchange – Jayco) at Lotto Ladies Tour.
“Good way to build form is to race and to race hard right. Thanks girls (teammates) and staff for a fun week of racing!”
Prior to her return, Campbell said she had been a lot of tough training on the European circuit in high temperatures.
