OPPOSITION Senator Wade Mark saluted former energy minister, the late Franklin Khan, for his personal qualities and for being part of Senate debates which helped advance the nation's affairs.

In a statement on Sunday, the Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, expressed the collective condolences of the Opposition Bench in the Senate on the sudden and untimely passing of Khan, who was the former leader of government business in the Senate, last Saturday morning.

"As a former elected MP (Khan) and more so as a senator we have been engaged over the past few years in many healthy exchanges of important information pertinent to the management and business of the Senate. These exchanges contributed in assisting and propelling the Senate forward in the organisation of its affairs during his stewardship.

"Former Senator Khan was a quiet and unassuming individual who firmly promoted and championed the PNM Government's agenda even in the face of stiff opposition from the United National Congress." Mark said Khan was extremely loyal and uncompromising in his promotion of the Government’s agenda, which Mark said had clashed at times with the national interest and the people’s ultimate welfare and well being.

"In sanctifying his memory, we will always value his cordial approach to matters raised and discussed, his frankness of thoughts and views and his trademark smile and at times infectious sense of humour. Franklin Khan remained loyal and dedicated to his political views and party right to the very end.

"In celebrating his short, yet colourful, life on earth we would like to extend our collective condolences to his family, friends and associates."

Mark wished Khan's family hope in the midst of sorrow and comfort in the midst of pain.

"We pray that Almighty God will comfort him and grant him eternal peace and perpetual rest.

"May his soul rest in eternal peace."
