Anthony Boos puts on Never See? Come See art exhibition
Anthony (Tony) Boos' exhibition titled Never See? Come See is on at Arnim's Art Galleria, Port of Spain.
A media release said the artist's painting styles have often been compared to the images of Alf Cadallo and Dermot Louison but also that of Atteck, Hing Wan and Carlyle Chang, as he was born in that era.
Boos, who started painting at ten, said in the release, "Each idea of my work responds to many different themes but all of them belonging to the same origin – me."
In the Carnival arena, he has worked with the likes of Peter Minshall, Stephen Lee Heung, and Raoul Garib. As a young boy in Pointe-a-Pierre, he helped his parents with many successful Carnival floats and individual portrayals.
“From birth, my life has been one of challenging my contemporaries and peers in the arts to be better than what I believed they considered be the norm. I have been advised that the younger generation cannot relate to the realism of my work. The majority gravitate to the abstract, cubism, surrealism, or any other style except realism. However, I have always been a supporter of the masters like Da Vinci and Michelangelo.”
It was later in life that he began painting seriously with emphasis on his Catholic faith and its teachings. Hence, many of his works indirectly hint at his spirituality, the release said.
"I resort to the culture and sayings we Trinis like ....never see, come see, calm before the storm, press before snow cone, Happiness is what you make it, and Totin water foh Mammy. With the deepest hope, I pray that my art inspires our youth to deeply appreciate this gem of the Caribbean – Trinidad and Tobago.
The exhibition continues until March 27, Tuesday to Friday from 11am-6pm and on Saturday, 10 am-4 pm.
