Mt D'Or policeman crushed by fallen tree

A police officer was killed on Monday night when a tree fell on his house, crushing him.

Police said the officer, identified as 42-year-old Cpl Joseph Jones, was at home at upper Spring Valley, Mt D’Or at around 9.30 pm when a nearby tree fell on the house.

Jones's nephews heard the tree falling and saw him pinned under a large branch.

They called the police and fire service, who cut away the branches.

A district medical officer was called in and declared Jones dead at the scene at 12.10 am.

Police said Jones was last assigned to the Port of Spain division.
