AG: UNC looking for a scandal with Paria fuel sale
THE UNITED National Congress is looking for a scandal with the sale of fuel from Paria Fuel Trading to Aruba but there is none, said Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi.
He was responding to an urgent question in the Senate on Tuesday.
Opposition Senator Wade Mark asked, in the wake of the disclosure (by National Security Minister Stuart Young at the virtual media conference on Monday) that there is a clause in the contract between Paria Fuel Trading Company and Aruba on "Spot Purchase Fuel Agreement," whether Government intended to pursue legal action against the purchaser for breach of contract.
Al-Rawi replied that the question was premised on a conclusion that there was a breach of contract.
"I am not now in a present state to say anything about that."
He said it was confirmed that there was a sale of fuel to Aruba, but "anything beyond that is conjecture."
Mark then asked if the AG could confirm whether the clause had been included in earlier fuel exports to Aruba.
Al-Rawi replied: "My honourable friend is searching for a scandal and there is none. The lurching conclusions and exploratory remarks are drvien by a political agenda of my friends opposite."
He said the National Security Minister and Energy Minister have stated clearly the position with the sale.
"There is no scandal, Any attempt by the UNC to stir one is against the best interests of TT. And the population is searching for a reason why there is such a driven attempt to bring adverse consequences upon TT solely by the UNC."
