The Police Stolen Vehicle Squad recovered a Kia Sportage Wednesday, hours after it was reported stolen in St Joseph.

Police said the car was stolen at around 5 am that morning, but was found in Never Dirty, Morvant, at about 1 pm the same day.

No one was arrested.

The search was led by Snr Supt Michael Daniel of the Northern Division, and ASP Mervyn Edwards and co-ordinated by Sgt Christopher Swamber.

Newsday spoke to Swamber, who said the find was a result of information received, and he was pleased as all 12 cars reported stolen for the year had been found.

He also said a black Nissan X Trail believed to have been used in several killings was recovered on January 7 on Bath Street, East Port of Spain.

Swamber said police from the Stolen Vehicles Squad were committed to not only finding stolen vehicles, but preventing their theft.

"I always advise owners to place a personal marker in a discreet part of their vehicle, so if it is stolen and sold to a retailer, the true owner will be able to identify it.

"This is a multi-million-dollar industry and one I consider to be right behind the drug trade in terms of illegal industries."

Last Saturday, Swamber received an award from the Cunupia Business Chamber for his outstanding performance in vehicle recovery.
