Charles-Fevrier lauds Home of Football project

TT men’s football team assistant coach, and coach of the Elite Under-15 Development programme Stuart Charles-Fevrier is anticipating the opening of the TTFA (TT Football Association) Home of Football Training Centre which he sees as the dawn of a new era for all national teams and officials involved in local football.

Charles-Fevrier has been conducting training sessions with the Under-15 boys team at the Home of Football training pitch three days weekly. He held his final session for the year on December 16. He is hoping the addition of the player accommodation hotel and other related football development facilities will inspire the youngsters even further come 2019.

“A home of football is important. Every developed football country has a training centre. Now you can have programmes for national teams, coaches, administrators and referees so it takes care of all the different areas,” Charles-Fevrier said.

“What we would like to see is more development programmes especially for younger players and more national team programmes for all our national teams and the Home of Football can make this possible,” he added.

Charles-Fevrier was a contributor at the recent TTFA B License course, conducted by Anton Corneal and he was impressed with the approach, which he anticipates will move to greater heights through access to better infrastructure.

“That’s important for us to have these coaching courses and access to the different types of facilities as it relates to football development. In the Caribbean in particular we need to improve our coaching because football is improving all the time and you have to catch up with it. We need regular education for coaches and it’s a step in the right direction with the programme being conducted by Anton right now,” Charles-Fevrier said.

Looking at the national teams, the W Connection coach is hoping his current Under-15 group continues to maintain the right level of focus heading into the new year.

“The Under-15 team had a fairly good year. We played competitively for the first time in Curacao and we topped our group, scoring a lot of goals which was encouraging. The youngsters still have a long way to go but we are continuing with the work.

“In terms of the national senior team, I thought we had a lot of positives this year because we played in almost every FIFA window which was very good and you saw a progression in the team in all the games. Sometimes the results didn’t go our way but we saw progress because the objective is to make sure we perform well in the Gold Cup so these games are more preparations to give the coach an idea, what he needs to work on. The team programme was very encouraging this year,” Charles-Fevrier concluded.
