Finance Ministry probing PP deals
FINANCE Minister Colm Imbert yesterday said his ministry is investigating an arrangement under the former People’s Partnership (PP) government, which saw the TT Mortgage Finance Company (TTMF) make an arrangement with American Stores to “make available to its clients’ household appliances up to a value of $20,000 from American Stores.”
Responding to a question in the House of Representatives from Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal, Imbert said this arrangement happened in or around 2012.
Imbert said subsequent to this, TTMF entered into another arrangement with Damus Roofing System.
He said this issue recently came to his ministry’s attention. Imbert added that this arrangement occurred under Moonilal, who was housing minister in the PP.
The question was posed to the Housing Minister.
In a Cabinet reshuffle on Monday, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley appointed himself as housing minister.
Former sport minister Darryl Smith was reassigned as a minister in the Ministry of Housing in the reshuffle. Smith was fired from that post on Tuesday. Former housing minister Randall Mitchell was reassigned to the Ministry of Tourism.
