A Cocorite man has been granted $250,000 bail by Scarborough magistrate Indrani Cedeno after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana for trafficking.

Claydon Whyllie, 60, a former port worker from John Street, Cocorite, was arrested by police of the Tobago Divisional Task Force and the Moriah Police Station on December 13.

Police said they stopped a black Mazda SUV on Wilson Road, close to Market Square car park, after it disembarked from the TT Spirit fast ferry.

They searched the car and found a black plastic bag with ten packets of marijuana in the trunk, under the spare tyre. They also found marijuana in the driver’s pants pocket. In all, police said the drugs weighed 5.73 kilogrammes.

Wyllie was given the alternative of a $20,000 cash bail, and ordered to report to the St James Police station or the Scarborough Police Station once a week at any time.

He returns to court on January 14.
