PM’s return delayed

PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley was due to return home last last night from London. Rowley left the country on April 15 to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London. He was supposed to return at 3.50 pm yesterday on a British Airways plane and was scheduled to hold a news conference at Piarco Airport International Airport.

A tweet from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) showed Rowley, Minister in the OPM Stuart Young, TT High Commissioner to the UK Orville London and the Queen’s representative Nicholas Jarrold, chatting at Gatwick Airport lounge. Newsday understands Rowley’s flight was delayed owing to an operational issue with the aircraft, but he and his delegation were able to get seats on a later flight, which was due to reach TT at 10.30 pm. Wjhile in London, Rowley met with officials of British Petroleum and Shell. He held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the Indian government partnering with TT regarding the Couva Children’s and Adult Hospital. Rowley also met with TT nationals living in the UK on Monday.

Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Dennis Moses and London represented TT in talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May and other government officials on the Windrush issue.
