IT WAS scheduled as a morning in which there would have been competition in two, when it should have been in three classes. The third class was listed as a contest between Blanchisseuse Secondary, and Holy Name Convent, but only Holy Name turned up to compete against themselves. Well of course, they won the class -- Secondary School Folk Song choirs (over 20 singers), having competed against themselves.

Holy Name, despite being a loner, did get their pieces right. Adjudicator Dorothy Howden, who found Holy Name sounded quite well, but there was they could have put into the tunes ‘Mih Donkey and ’Coconut Woman’, but as she insisted that there be more energy in their singing.

In Class D3 - Piano Solo -- 16 - 19 yrs and under, a lovely tune in the test piece “Golliwog’s Cake Walk” earned Luke Walker top spot with 88 marks. Second place went to Anna King with 84 marks, while third place went to Krya Narine with 83 marks.

To the many competing girl soloists, the adjudicator urged them to keep singing to improve their singing. If they took the hint they would be quite surprised to note their development. In Class A7, the half-filled audience was treated with some fine piano playing by Clarice Beepat, Jade Huggins, and Thalia Bucchan, who got 87 marks.
