Police dismiss rumours of attorney’s arrest

Senior police yesterday dismissed rumours that a warrant had been signed by a High Court judge early yesterday for the arrest of an attorney who has close ties with the United National Congress (UNC). Early yesterday, the rumours began circulating that police officers armed with a warrant were on their way to the attorney's home.

However hours later further information began circulating that the officers realised that they had the wrong address of the attorney on the warrant and had to return to Port of Spain to get a fresh warrant signed.

The attorney, when contacted by Newsday, said he had no information that a warrant had been issued for his arrest, but said that he was never interviewed and found it strange that a warrant had been issued for him. Sources also revealed that the attorney's relatives also learned of the alleged impending arrest of the attorney and this brought them to tears. However, Newsday contacted several senior police sources who described the information as being a rumour being spread by people with certain agendas.

Up until yesterday no warrant had been issued for the arrest of the attorney, and according to well placed sources, the police investigation against the attorney is continuing at pace.
