Tunapuna man, 21, held for robbing US citizens Carnival Tuesday

A 21-year-old man from Tunapuna was arrested following a robbery that occurred on March 4, when two US residents were targeted by a group of men in St Clair.

Around 9.45 pm, a 41-year-old male financial broker from New Jersey and his 45-year-old female companion from Miami were walking along Broom Street when they were ambushed by a group of men.

The suspects, described as being of African descent and wearing dark-coloured clothing, attacked the victims and stole their valuables.

The male victim had his gold chain, valued at US $10,000, taken, while the woman was robbed of her iPhone 15 Pro worth US$1,500 and US$300 in cash.

Shortly after the incident, the victims stopped officers on patrol and gave a description of one of the suspects who they identified as having slim build; of African descent; around five feet, five inches tall; in his twenties; wearing a black jersey and black three-quarter pants.

Officers, acting on the information, held the suspect, who was taken to the Woodbrook Police Station for further processing.

Investigations into the robbery are ongoing as police work to apprehend additional suspects.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old man was attacked and robbed on March 9 while conducting business at a home for the aged in Belmont.

Reports say around 2.20 pm, the victim arrived at the home in his white Kia Optima to complete a transaction. While parked the facility's carpark, the victim was accosted by six men.

One of the men had a gun and struck the victim in the head with it before announcing a robbery. The victim was tied up near another building.

The men stole the victim’s drone, a bag containing $17,000, a white iPhone 14 Pro Max, an Apple Watch, and the victim's car, valued at $130,000, which had an additional $1,000 in cash inside.

The victim freed himself and went to the Belmont Police Station where he described the suspects. Police are investigating the incident.

On March 9, a 75-year-old woman from San Juan was robbed as she walked along a track opposite Abattoir Road, Port of Spain around 3.10 pm.

She said as she walked toward the Eastern Main Road, a man approached her, grabbed her $900 chain, and ripped it from around her neck. He then, with a knife in hand, demanded she open her handbag.

The suspect then grabbed $800 from the woman's bag and ran off in the direction of Sea Lots.

The woman described the suspect as mixed race; approximately five feet, five inches tall; with a slim build; light-skinned, an unkempt hairstyle; and wearing a red jersey.

Also on March 9, a 19-year-old man from Princes Town was robbed after arranging to meet a man from Facebook Marketplace at the corner of Park and Piccadilly Streets, Port of Spain.

Around 3.20 pm, the victim was sitting in a blue Almera when the male suspect, who had initially expressed interest in purchasing the victim's iPhone 13 Pro Max, valued at $6,000, approached him.

The suspect suddenly grabbed the phone from the victim’s hand, threw an envelope at him and ran on foot towards Bath Street.

The victim described the suspect as being of African descent, with a dark brown complexion and a small build, unkempt hairstyle, black hair and a "sugar head" style of facial hair.

He said the suspect had a long face, brown eyes, no teeth and small ears. The suspect was wearing a purple T-shirt, three-quarter pants and sandals.
