CAL opens first ever cold storage facility

Caribbean Airlines (CAL) Cargo has opened a cold storage facility, a first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, in Piarco.
The 5,000-square-foot facility, opened on March 20, has been specially designed for aircraft containers and pallets to accommodate the transportation of temperature-sensitive cargo.
In a release, CAL said, "This new unit adds immense value to many of the airline's perishable-goods cargo customers, many of whom are local fish exporters."
The release said the facility can store aircraft pallets for large all-cargo freighters and is equipped with a "state-of-the-art" roller system.

Designed by local manufacturer Mecalfab Ltd, the unit can accommodate the loading and storage of up to 40 aircraft pallets.
It features refrigerated temperature control to a minimum of two degrees celsius.
At the facility's opening, CAL general manager Marklan Moseley said, "At Caribbean Airlines Cargo, we reaffirm our dedication to continuous innovation and service excellence, and this facility was constructed to preserve the integrity of our customers’ shipments and provide them with enhanced reliability in their logistics chain."
