Cop's car stolen with bulletproof vest, handcuffs inside
A bulletproof vest and handcuffs were among the things stolen from a policeman’s car in St James.
Around 8 pm on February 4, the victim, who is attached to the Besson Street Police Station, parked his Nissan Tiida near his home.
He locked the doors and windows and went into his house.
Around 3 am the next day he went outside and saw his car was missing.
He reported the theft to the St James Police Station and told officers his police-issued bulletproof vest, handcuffs, baton, gun holster, cap, flashlight, and utility belt were in the car.
PC Baksh is investigating.
Meanwhile, police in Arouca are searching for bandits who stole slippers, vests, bandanas and caps from a clothing store on February 4.
The 37-year-old store owner was at her businessplace in Fourth Street, Five Rivers, Arouca at around 2.35 pm when two men walked in and announced a robbery.
The men stole five Nike slippers valued a total $450, one dozen white vests worth $300, six hats worth $360, 96 earrings together valued $960 and six bandanas worth a total of $60.
They also stole the store owner’s phone worth $700.
The men then ran out of the store and into the nearby savannah.
WPC John from the Arouca Police Station is investigating.
A businessowner in Freeport also suffered losses when bandits escaped with $70,000 in cash.
The store manufactures custom-made aluminium building products and installs windows in homes and businesses.
The owner told police around 4.30 pm on February 3, he closed the business and locked all the doors and windows.
He returned around 7.40 am the next day and realised there was no electricity in the building.
He then went into his office and saw a brown filing cabinet had been tampered with.
He checked the cabinet and realised $70,000 cash that was stored in one of the drawers in the cabinet was missing.
Police believe the bandits gained entry to the building by creating a hole in the southern wall at the back of the building.
PC Rampersad is investigating the theft.
