RESTORATION works on the Sea Lots Channel and Turning Basin have been completed, returning the areas to its original depth after 15 years.

The project, commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries and carried out by the National Energy Corporation of TT Ltd (National Energy) on behalf of the National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP), involved dredging from December 2023 to July 2024.

A news release on August 17 said the work adhered to international best practices and stringent HSSE procedures, with zero lost-time incidents.

National Energy’s president, Dr Vernon Paltoo, expressed satisfaction with the restoration, saying, "Our proven expertise in dredging operations from completing similar projects at our ports in Point Lisas, Galeota, and La Brea allowed us to complete this project efficiently and within budget."

Derek Luk Pat, NP’s chief executive officer, also expressed satisfaction with "the safe and successful completion of the dredging project."

He announced that plans are underway to increase the port’s capacity to accommodate larger vessels, which is expected to positively impact the economy through enhanced trade and revenue generation.
