POLICE say they have struck a major blow against crime in Tobago.

In a statement on August 13, police said two key suspects had been charged under the Anti-Gang Act.

The two individuals are prisoners.

Two other suspects were also detained and are facing serious charges for possession of narcotics and ammunition.

"This marks a powerful step forward to curb the recent uptick in criminal activity on the sister isle," police said.

Theron Agard, aka "H Man," was charged with being a gang leader under the Anti-Gang Act.

He was also charged with conspiracy to rob.

Marcus Harvey, aka "Banton," was charged with being a gang member and conspiracy to rob.

Justin Junior Melville, aka "Mad Dog," was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking on August 9, at Hart Lane, Government House Road, Scarborough.

Okeen West was charged with possession of 18 rounds of ammunition on August 10 at Hart Lane, Government House Road, Scarborough.

Investigations are continuing, the statement said.

There have been a record 19 murders in Tobago so far this year.
