Police kill 3 alleged gang members in Caroni

Police have killed three alleged members of the Resistance gang in an early morning shootout in central Trinidad on August 11.

A police report said officers were on patrol at about 4.40 am, along the road to the Caroni Cremation Site, when they received information about  a speeding white Nissan Almera carrying guns.

The report said the officers chased the car with their sirens and lights on, but while they were trying to stop the Almera, it collided with their vehicle.

The officers reportedly heard two shots from the driver's side of the Almera before it ran off the road. The report also said the officers heard two more gunshots and returned fire.

After the exchange, they found the three occupants injured.

In the driver's seat was Amir "Pa" Bissoon of Dookiesingh Steet Extension, St Augustine, Jodi "Gia" Barath was in the front passenger seat and Joseph Ramjit of Kalpoo Street, Spring Village in the back seat.

Police said they were all known members of the Resistance gang.

All three were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where they were pronounced dead on arrival at 5.14 am. Police found a black pistol in the driver's side of the Almera. There were also three gunshot holes in the front of the police vehicle, the report said.
