Williamsville pensioner robbed at gunpoint, car found in Barrackpore

A car that was stolen at gunpoint from a 74-year-old pensioner in Williamsville on July 24 has been recovered.

Southern Division police found the car abandoned on the roadside in the Barrackpore district on July 25.

The discovery was made in an anti-crime exercise which included officers from the St Mary’s police post and the Moruga and Barrackpore police stations.

Sgt Sooknanan led the exercise.

At around 2.20 pm on July 24, the victim, from Guaracara Tabaquite Road, returned home, got out of his red Toyota Corolla car and opened his front gate.

As he was about to drive in, a gunman ran toward him and pulled him out of the driver’s seat.

The gunman got in and drove off as the pensioner ran and alerted relatives and neighbours.

No one has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
