A policeman has been honoured for his act of kindness in helping a woman whose car shut down on the roadside.

Constable Sujeet Ramcharan, of the La Romaine police post, was recognised on Wednesday at the police media briefing for his excellent service held at the Solomon McLeod theatre of the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain.

On Wednesday, a release from police said Ramcharran was on his way to work in his personal car last Thursday when he saw a car parked on the M2 Ring Road in La Romaine.

He stopped and saw that the occupants were a woman and her two-year-old baby. The woman told him that her car was out of gas.

The release said Ramcharan found a gas container and left to buy the fuel.

He returned and filled the tank, ensuring that the car started. The mother then drove off with the child.

The woman was surprised the policeman noticed her car, considering the area is overgrown with bushes.

The release quoted her as saying: “He was also very quick. I offered to give him back his money for the gas. He said it was okay. It was really nice to get that kind of response from the police. He did not have to stop, no one else did.”

DCP McDonald Jacob made the presentation to Ramcharan.
