Three held with assault rifle in Laventille

Three men are in custody after they were held with an assault rifle while driving in Laventille on Monday morning.

Police said members of the Port of Spain Task Force saw a red Toyota Tercel quickly reversing on Leau Place, Laventille, at around 11.15 am.

Police stopped the car,searched it and found the gun wrapped in clear plastic wrap hidden in the centre console of the car.

The gun was seized and the three men arrested.

Investigators from the Port of Spain CID are expected to interview the men.

The exercise was co-ordinated by ACP Gaffar and led by Snr Supt Nobbee and ASP Cumberbatch, with field operations by Insp Knott, Sgt Alexander, PCs Drakes and Remy and WPC Brown.
