25 Venezuelans held in Santa Flora after illegal entry

A total of 25 Venezuelans were detained by police on Monday after illegally entering TT in Santa Flora.

In a release on Monday, the police said members of the South Western Division Task Force on an anti-crime exercise from Sunday night were told "several illegal immigrants disembarked a vessel at Mahawal Beach, School Road, Santa Flora, and boarded vehicles around 12.30 am.

The police intercepted them along the SS Erin Road nearthe NP Quikshoppe.

The drivers, a 29-year-old man from Siparia and a Venezuelan who lives in TT, were also arrested.

The group was taken to the Siparia Health Facility for a medical checkup and later taken to the Santa Flora and Erin Police Stations.

They will be taken to the Coast Guard base at the heliport in Chaguaramas.

The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Brandon-John, ASP Ramdeen and Insp Simon and supervised by Sgt Breedy.
