New WASA board appointed
CABINET has appointed a new board of commissioners for the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) a release from the Ministry of Public Utitilies said on Thursday.
The release added that the tenure of the previous board ended on November 30. WASA's new chairman is Dr Lennox Sealy, a consultant specialising in organisational transformation and development who has worked on major transformation exercises for governments across the region.
Other members of the new board include attorney Ravindra Nanga, geologist Ramnarine Clive Dookie, civil engineer Danford Mapp, engineer Acherson Wells, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Public Utilities Ministry Beverly Khan, Chief Financial Officer Carol Austin and accounting and management expert Joel Edwards.
The release said the new board will be required to provide strategic direction to transform the authority into a high-quality performance water and wastewater company, with a focus on best practice, good corporate governance, transparency and accountability.
The transformation of the authority will reportedly be underpinned by the following strategic imperatives:
· Build public ponfidence in the operations of the water sector and the Government’s strategic intent;
· Cultivate operational efficiency and customer service;
· Restructure the water and wastewater sector.
Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales has thanked former chairman Romney Thomas and the other former commissioners for their service and also welcomed the new board and its chairman.
