Agriculture Ministry wants people to grow more food

Senator Avinash Singh, parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, presented over 500 packets of seeds to Tunapuna MP Esmond Forde. The donation was made on May 21 as part of the Grow Trinbago seed initiative at Paradise Heights, Tacarigua with residents and councillors in attendance.

In a statement released on Thursday, Singh encouraged residents to take advantage of the programme and get more into home gardening.

Seeds were also given to Minister of Finance Colm Imbert on May 22 for distribution to his Diego Martin North/East constituents.

The initiative was launched on May 9 with the intent of distributing over 50,000 seed packets to citizens.

Anyone interested in getting seeds can contact the their MP’s office or their local government councillor to register for collection.
