A man wearing a patient’s gown took to the roof of the San Fernando General Hospital at noon yesterday and was spotted running. The incident was also captured on social media with the video showing the man pacing the galvanised roof, revealing his naked body as he ran.

A visitor at the hospital who witnessed the incident said the man was caught quickly by security officers. The visitor, who wished to remain anonymous, said the man was sedated and taken on a stretcher to the ward. “He was shouting, 'Leave me alone, leave me alone.'”

The man was also seen running across the roof on the connector chute between the emergency department and the adjacent hospital building when security officers held him.

The corporate communications department of the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) sent a release on the incident saying the patient was  safely in the care of health care professionals, while his medical profile is being re-evaluated.

It also said that SWRHA’s security management protocols were activated to ensure the patient’s safety.
