CHARGED: Carl Richardson -

Carl Richardson, 30, of Martin Prime Trace, St John's Village, Ste Madeleine, appeared before a magistrate on Wednesday charged with the January 24 murder of Debe woodwork school teacher Ashram Boodram.

Boodram, 50, was shot in the chest as he was about to enter his home at Hibiscus Drive, after returning from the bank. His house is under construction, and initial reports said he had withdrawn money to pay workmen. Relatives, however, have since disclosed to police that he did not make any withdrawals.

Police said they were told that a man walked up to Boodram and grabbed a bag he was carrying then shot him. Boodram, who lived alone, was declared dead at San Fernando General Hospital.

Richardson was arrested by police on Thursday last week in New Grant. He was charged by WPC Serioux of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region III

Prosecutor PC Cleyon Seedan told Connor that Richardson was convicted in October 2018 for possession of a gun for which he was jailed for 18 months. He has a robbery case pending as well as a charge for attempted murder.

Connor remanded Richardson into custody to reappear on March 4.
