Local casting call for 1983 World Cup film

SPORTS Promotions of the United Kingdom is producing a feature film based on the 1983 Cricket World Cup. India beat the West Indies to win their first World Cup in a stunning upset. West Indies had bowled out India for 183 with Andy Roberts taking three wickets for 32 runs. The regional side, however, collapse din their chase to be dismissed for 140, with Vivian Richards (33) top scoring.

A crew from the casting company is in Trinidad and are trying to meet and see as many cricketers as possible to give the director and producers a variety of options for each role.

Cricketers can be of any standard – amateur, semi-professional, professional or retired.

Filming of the feature will be done in the UK, with those cast in the West Indies team for the film having the opportunity to appear at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London to recreate the 1983 final.

The cricketer or actor selected and cast in the film will have his travel, flights and accommodation paid for by the production company.

These expenses is separate to his filming fee. Compensation is between US$5,000 to US$8,000. The company said, those desirous of making the cut should have a similar cricket style, look and height of one of cricket greats of the 1980s.

Screening/auditions for the roles will take place on Monday and Tuesday, between 9 am and 4 pm at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva. Those interested must attend either of the two sessions. General info on West Indies stars during the 1983 CWC can be found below.

Clive Lloyd: Batting - left hand, Bowling - right arm medium, Height - 6’4, Age - 39

Malcolm Marshall: Batting - right hand, Bowling - right arm fast, Height - 5’11, Age - 25

Joel Garner: Batting - right hand, Bowling - right arm fast, Height - 6’8, Age - 31

Sir Andy Roberts: Batting - right hand, Bowling - right hand, Height - 6’2, Age - 32

Michael Holding: Batting - right hand, Bowling - right arm fast, Height - 6’3, Age - 29

Jeff Dujon: Batting - right hand, Wicket keeper, Height - 5’11, Age - 27

Desmond Haynes: Batting - right hand, Bowling - Height - 5’11, Age - 27

Larry Gomes: Batting - left hand, Bowling - right arm off break, right arm medium pace, Height - 5’11, Age - 30
