Cop shot in robbery attempt, 15-yr-old bandit killed

A 15-year-old boy is dead after engaging in a shootout with police who responded to a report of an armed robbery at a house in Marabella. Wounded in the exchange of gunfire was PC Anand Ram who was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Ram was shot in the lower abdomen. His condition has been described as stable but serious. The incident occurred just three days after PC Richard Babwah, 31, was shot dead after he attempted to thwart a robbery at a Chinese restaurant at Eastern Main Road, Arouca.

The bandit killed yesterday has been identified as Isaac Simmons of Marabella. Gasparillo police received a report a about 5.30 pm that a robbery was in progress at a house at Fifth Street, Gopaul Lands, Marabella.

When they arrived, they were shot at by three men. The police returned fire killing Simmons. One of the men was held and the third escaped. Police officers also recovered a loaded firearm at the scene.
