A 31-year-old man from Penal yesterday surrendered to Penal police in connection with the deaths, on November 6, of Khemchan Roopnarine, 38, and his wife Patricia Ali, 36. Both were killed in a hit and run accident.

The suspect is believed to be the driver of a Nissan Tiida car, belonging to his girlfriend, which struck the couple as they were walking with their sons along Penal Rock Road at about 10 pm.

Investigators went to the home of the driver but did not find him. Instead, they interviewed his girlfriend who could shed no light on his whereabouts.

Police said that yesterday, at about midday, attorney Ramnarine Soojansingh accompanied the suspect to the Penal Police Station. The suspect, up to press time, was being interviewed by police.

Soojansingh confirmed to Newsday yesterday that he sat next to the suspect during the interview. The suspect is from Boucard Trace, Penal Rock Road, Penal. Roopnarine and Ali were returning home from a family lime a few houses away with their children, Brandon, nine, and Darrion, five, who were walking ahead of them, When the car struck the couple, the screaming children ran towards their parents who were already dead.
