Look for Derby re-match on Republic Day
THERE could be a re-match of the Massy United Insurance Trinidad Derby come September 25.
If all goes well, Derby queen Leading Lady surprise runner-up Hello and fourth placed Valorous have been nominated for this year’s running of the Caribbean Champion Stakes.
The trio will be challenged by last year’s race winner Bigman In Town in the 1800 metres Champion Stakes.
A second nomination fee of $300 for the race becomes due and payable on Wednesday.
Nut “The Lady” is also nominated for the Gleneagle Stakes for fillies only over 1750 metres also on September 25.
The John O’Brien-trained filly is among five to be saddled by the master trainer, Others are Bridal Falls, Rcket WheelsBlind Date and Alruna who made a failed bid at the Barbados Derby.
Third big race of the Republic Day holiday is the Diamond Stakes over an extended sprint of 1350 metres.
And a big battle is anticipated with Bigman In Town, Whisper Light, Control Unit, Conquest Bespoke, Strockyard aznd unknown American-bred newcomer Edatis Gem holding nominations.
A second nomination fee of $300 is due and payable on or befopre September 6.
