Robert Le Hunte removed as Public Utilities Minister

Four days after he was sworn in as Public Utilities Minister Robert Le Hunte has been removed from the post following the discovery that he is a citizen of Ghana.
This was announced by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in a release issued this afternoon.
“It has come to the attention of the Honourable Prime Minister (Dr Keith Rowley) that Mr Robert Le Hunte is a citizen of Ghana and accordingly he is not qualified under section 42(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to be a appointed as a Senator.”
As a result, the Prime Minister will once again assume the portfolio as Public Utilites Minister until the matter is rectified; the post he held for more than a month following Marlene McDonald’s dismissal as minister.
"It is expected that this situation will be rectified by Friday 1 September, 2017," the OPM said
Le Hunte, the former Managing Director of HFC Bank (Ghana) Limited, a subsidiary of Republic Financial Holdings Limited.
